Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are once again a blight upon the human landscape, and can create a stressful home environment for you and your family, and be expensive to eliminate if not treated quickly the first time.

Bed bugs have recently become a huge problem again throughout North America after being nearly eradicated with the widespread use of DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) in the 1950’s throughout the developed world. DDT was an extremely effective synthetic pesticide, but was an enormously toxic chemical that had a devastating environmental impact and is even shown to have caused birth defects. With the advent of a new global epidemic of the bedbug, pest control experts must rely on new, non-toxic remedies of eradication of bedbugs and other insect infestations.

The pretreatment for bedbugs is the most effective remedy, or as they say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Your first line of defense in a domestic setting is the best way to prevent and control a bed bug infestation.

TIPS TO PREVENT BED BUG INFESTATION:

Monitor & inspect all incoming traffic and new items that come into your home.
Remove any excess clutter around your home, and store seasonal or excess clothing in sealed plastic bags
Vacuum carpet, walls, window frames, door frames and furniture regularly, and launder all possible parts of chairs & sofas (cushions, slipcovers, skirting, etc.) in hot water
Use approved mattress and box spring encasements.
Wash all clothes and bed linen in extreme temperatures, and use high heat to dry
Do not take in any second hand items such as furniture & mattresses. If you do, inspect and clean them before bringing them into the home.
When you travel, be careful to book a hotel that has been vetted first for bedbugs. You can do this by going to the Bed Bug Registry.  Once in the hotel room carefully check it for bedbugs, and do not hang your clothing in the hotel closet.  Knowledge is the key, not pesticide.

However, if you have unwittingly become a victim of an infestation, call Delaney Pest Control immediately before the problem becomes overwhelming. Bedbugs are extremely hard to get rid of, and an infestation requires more than just a spray bottle of indoor or outdoor pesticide. The extermination of bedbugs is best achieved by using an a multi-tactic approach that involves sanitation, chemicals and the use of extreme temperatures.

Delaney Pest Control follows an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to pest control, and uses a combination of safe, governmentally approved pesticides and other treatments to exterminate bedbugs. Think of the safety and health of your family before you spending big bucks battling the little buggers with over the counter sprays.

The use of any kind of pesticides in the home should be left to trained professionals so as not to endanger your family & pets.
